Location: Breakblock Park, Honeysuckle Budget: $74,336.00 Lightscape extended the placemaking ambitions of Honeysuckle Lights through an interactive lighting installation at Brake Block Park in Newcastle. Funded by the Newcastle Port Community Contribution Fund, the project transformed a dimly lit green space into a responsive public environment using sensor technology. Designed as both activation and research platform, Lightscape received formal ethics approval to map patterns of public interaction, generating a dataset to inform future urban activation strategies in partnership with the City of Newcastle. Over a 27-day period, approximately 1,000 people engaged with the installation, demonstrating strong community impact and validating interactive light as a tool for enhancing safety, visibility, and public amenity. Lightscape positioned digital infrastructure not simply as spectacle, but as a measurable, evidence-based approach to placemaking in Newcastle.
